Literacy is the foundation of good education. All children should have access to quality education so that they can become independent and responsible adults. However, children in rural India still do not have access to good and quality education. Due to this, they lack understanding of basic concepts like alphabets and numbers. Students are simply upgraded from one class to another, but their basic conceptual understanding still remains low. Thus, they can’t read or write in their local or English language. As they grow old and face the world, they start facing issues. It not only limits their overall growth but also decreases their confidence. Their opportunities become limited and their true capabilities remain undiscovered.

Why does this happen?

There are multiple reasons why this problem is growing in rural areas. However, lack of interest and lack of proper guidance / mentorship are the two primary causes. 

What is the solution?

In order to tackle this issue and help our children become a successful, independent, and confident adult of tomorrow, we introduced a program – Akshar Olakh Abhiyan. This program adjoins the school syllabus and encourages children in class 5th and 6th to practice reading and writing in their local and English language. By this, they learn to establish a strong educational foundation. The end results help them develop culturally and socially.

Sundar Sanskar and Swadhyay Mandal provides children with necessary study supplies like:

  • Letters Slates (Mulakshar Patya)
  • Practice notebooks
  • Other learning material

From practicing letters to learning how to draft complete sentences, the organization ensures the students get quality education, complete guidance and mentorship.

Implementation & Progress:

  • Today, this program has been implemented in three schools across Pune.
  • During the implementation, it was observed that few students from class 5th and 6th had low reading and writing abilities. To overcome this, these students were offered writing boards and pencils by the organization.
  • After completing three months in the program, these students will be given workbooks. It will help them learn word and sentence formations.

  • You can also help financially and contribute any amount which will be directly used for the workbooks and writing books provided to students for study and revision.
